"For the first time, patients who are considered to be on a path to permanent blindness may have a chance to regain sight."
About
Nanoscope Therapeutics is developing disease-agnostic, vision-restoring optogenetic therapy for millions of patients blinded by retinal degenerative diseases, for which no cure exists. The company's lead asset MCO-010 is an ambient-light activatable Multi-Characteristic Opsin optogenetic therapy for vision restoration in advanced retinitis pigmentosa, irrespective of gene mutation, delivered via a single one-time intravitreal injection in a doctor's office. A rolling Biologics License Application to the FDA has been initiated following positive results from the RESTORE Phase 2b/3 multicenter, randomized, double-masked, sham-controlled clinical trial.
Background
Bhattacharya comes from a family history of retinitis pigmentosa and has witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of progressive vision loss to blindness on patients and their loved ones — a deeply personal mission that led her to co-found Nanoscope. She leveraged her background in financial services and management consulting to pursue a treatment for vision-robbing degenerations, recognizing the breakthrough optogenetics work of co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer Samarendra Mohanty, Ph.D. as the vehicle to fulfill that mission. She holds a B.Tech and an MBA, and was named winner of the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2022 Central Plains Award and elected to the Biotechnology Innovation Organization Emerging Companies Section Governing Board.
